AILA's program:
American Indian Children's Literature: Identifying and Celebrating the Good
Grand Hyatt Washington, Independence B/C Co-sponsored by AILA and the Diversity Council.
Identifying and discussing what to look for in Children's Literature for and about American Indian children, looking at cultural issues, accuracy of portrayals, and programming opportunities.
Joseph Bruchac is the guest keynote speaker at this program.
Joseph Bruchac's Hidden Roots, was the winner of the American Indian Youth Literature Award for Young Adults. He will be speaking on his role as an American Indian author and a catalyst for change. He will be talking about his writings, books, young adult books and American Indians.
Hear also about AILA's American Indian Youth Book Awards, identifying and discussing what to look for in Children's Literature for and about American Indian Children, looking at cultural issues, accuracy of portrayals, and programming opportunities. Other speakers include Gabriella Kaye, reference/ children's librarians of the Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center, Dr. Naomi Caldwell, Assistant Professor Graduate School of Library and Information Studies, University of Rhode Island, and Lisa Mitten, book review editor for Choice Magazine.
